Google Potentially Buying The Radio Service, Sirius
September 26th, 2007
There’s a deep rumor going around the web and it’s about Google buying Sirius, the radio station. Many have dismissed this idea, claiming it ridiculous, but it’s also the perfect buy for Google. By buying Sirius, Google will own five satellites, Three in space, one spare, and one in the making. These satellites can do a number of things besides broadcasting radio. It can broadcast television and ISP. Imagine Google owning an internet company. Better yet. Imagine Google owning a television Company. This is what will happen if Google decides to do this. Amazing. Courageous.
If they do this, will be able to provide in-car internet for on the road. Also, think of the Google Phone. Doing this will probably give us free internet on our gphones. Don’t just stop at there. If Google aquires a or makes a VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) it will make the phone service free. Google is already interested in phone services (the gphone and 1800-goog-411) and oddly enough, internet connection services. A couple of weeks ago. There was a story about Google payingfor their project that would make an underwater cable to Australia, so they’d be able to pay less.
Although this is very exciting, and with this new technology, Google could potentially do anything (even take over the world), there are some serious facts that would be, in the tiniest way, scary. Google already has a lot of data about every one of us. From emails to word documents and from searches to phone numbers to possibly phone calls (once the gphone comes out. If Google buys Sirius, they may be able
to view what shows we watch, what radio stations we watch, and also *gasp!* Every single site we have ever been on.
But Google states that all of the data is just for their money making product, Adwords. I believe them. Do you?
Again, this is just a rumor; possibly true, but then again, maybe not.
[Editors Note: Fixed the misspellings of Sirius]
A few of these ideas came from here.
